Welcome to ICAR 2027 in Madison

The International Conference on Arabidopsis Research (ICAR) is the leading annual gathering of the global community of scientists that uses Arabidopsis as a model system. Most breakthroughs in plant science in the last several decades have relied on development of Arabidopsis as the reference for both research and international collaboration. Thousands of researchers around the world use Arabidopsis in their studies and knowledge derived from such research informs nearly all aspects of foundational plant biology. Critically, paradigms established using Arabidopsis have, and will continue, to be applied to crop species, thus paving the way for rational improvements in a variety of agricultural traits. The first ICAR was held in 1965 and it became an annual conference in 1995.

The 37th ICAR will take place from 19-23, July 2027 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, which sits adjacent to Lake Mendota. Madison, the capital of the state of Wisconsin, has a domestic airport and is easily accessible by international travelers through major airports in Chicago and Milwaukee. ICAR 2027 will provide numerous opportunities for both formal and informal exchanges and collaborations through plenary sessions and community mini symposia, poster presentations, keynote lectures, an opening reception, workshops, conference social, a science-art show, and the “Weed Stampede”, a 5K fun run/walk that began at ICAR 2011-Madison.
